In Memory
Robert B. Immordino

Robert Immordino, 94, of Lawrenceville passed away June 27, 2009.  He will be remembered fondly by friends and colleagues as an unstoppable force, an incredibly active man who found time to serve on multiple boards and commissions across Mercer County, even up until the time of his death.

His involvement in the local community was well-documented, and his love and knowledge of state, U.S. and Italian-American history was legendary.  Bob lived for history and his Italian-American culture.

He served two stints as the official municipal historian of Lawrence and amassed an impressive collection of historical artifacts, some of which are housed at the Center for Migration Studies in Staten Island, N.Y., and in the "Immordino Collection" at the Alexander Library at Rutgers University.

Bob was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Pacific.  He was a proud member of American Legion Post 414, and was Lawrence's oldest living veteran.

Up until his death, he was the current president of the Mercer County Library Commission, whose Lawrence branch he was partially responsible for creating.

Immordino served as a four-year member of the Lawrence Township Board of Education and was the co-founder of the Central Jersey chapter of the American Italian Historical Association. He helped create and organize the annual Col. Edward Hand Historical March in Lawrence and was a union labor scholar and advocate, as well as a board member for numerous community foundations including the Order Sons of Italy Lodge #2799.

Friends and family said it was easy to forget Immordino was a nonagenarian; his mind and activity level were those of a much younger man.

Bob was truly a legend in his own time and a wealth of knowledge.  He will be sadly missed by all of his Sons of Italy members.
